Eight Gardens to Visit Throughout the Festive Season

One of the ultimate joys of the festive period, is undoubtedly the outstanding light displays. From dancing fairy lights to enchanted winter wonderlands, the shows are being switched on far and wide. Here are Pro Landscapers’ top 8 unmissable festive garden displays!


1. Christmas at Kew

Where? Kew Gardens, Richmond, Surrey

When? Wednesday 20th November 2019 – Sunday 5th January 2020


Why? Now in its seventh year, the 2019 winter trail takes a magical new route and includes a host of all-new installations. Framed by glittering spiral trees, dynamic laser projections will illuminate the iconic Temperate House. Walk under the larger-than-life arches of light and beneath unique tree canopies drenched in Christmas colour. A dazzling arch leads to a cascade of glowing silvery shards at the Treetop Walkway. Walk amongst the immersive vines as they surprise you with changing ribbons of light.

2. Glow 2019

Where? RHS Garden, Wisley, Surrey

When? Saturday 7th December 2019 – Sunday 5th January 2020


Why? Be dazzled by giant botanical-inspired light installations and see Wisley’s best loved trees illuminated. Wander the enchanted trail to see dazzling light installations themed around the four seasons – from spring daffodils along Jelicoe Canal to snowdrops on Seven Acres.

3. Twilight Christmas

Where? Hever Castle & Gardens, Edenbridge

When? December 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th & 23rd 2019


Why? Embark on a magical journey down the rabbit hole and into the enchanting world of Alice in Wonderland. For a magical after dark experience, wrap up warm and enjoy a walk under the stars at Twilight Christmas. Witness the enchantment of the Castle and gardens festooned with fabulous colour and twinkling lights. Walk through the castle adorned with beautiful decorations and welcoming log fires.

4. Illuminated Garden Trail

Where? Helmingham Hall, Stowmarket

When? Saturday 23rd November 2019 – Sunday 8th December


Why? See the Helmingham Hall grounds garlanded with thousands of lights transforming the gardens into an enthralled winter wonderland. Start the trail off by crossing Helmingham Hall’s famous drawbridge, seeped in over 500 years of historical charm. Continue through the gardens absorbing the magical sights and sounds.

5. Christmas at Dunham Massey

Where? Dunham Massey, Cheshire

When? Saturday 30th November – Monday 30th December


Why? Embracing the fantastical, this year upon your visit to Dunham Massey, you’ll be greeted with singing trees, bubble-soaked bridges and tree canopies with enclosed with droplets of light. Enter the grand avenue planted with gigantic flowers, the house bought to life by festive projections. Walk through the dynamic, glowing Vortex Tunnels and stroll towards the mesmerising reflections made my Fire on Water.

6. Illuminated Light Trail

Where? Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

When? Friday 22nd November 2019 – Wednesday 1st January 2020


Why? A towering tunnel of light will twinkle, with over 100,000 pea-lights, while the woodland Laser Garden and the scent Fire Garden will return to the event. The Water Terrace light finale dances across the historic façade to much-loved Christmas classics.

7. Leonardslee Illuminated

Where? Leonardslee Gardens, Horsham

When? December 12th, 15th, 19th and 22nd 2019


Why? A spectacular Christmas trail through the beautiful woods and lakes at Leonardslee Gardens. Featuring spellbinding illuminations, music and large scale projections onto Leonardslee House. 8. Christmas at the Botanics

Where? Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh

When? Friday November 22nd 2019 – Friday November 29th 2019


Why? This after dark extravaganza will see the garden transformed with several new awe-inspiring attractions for visitors to enjoy. Step into a Laser Garden where dancing lines of light playfully bounce across the branches. Stroll toward the waterside reflections of the Festive Flotilla as hundreds of glowing boats gently bob on the shimmering surface and walk between larger than life icicles and neon spiral trees rising high into the night sky.
