During National Cleaning Week and the Great British Spring Clean, it is the perfect moment to recognise the teams who work behind the scenes to keep workplaces clean, safe, and welcoming.

From early mornings to late evenings, IPM Facilities cleaning teams support the smooth running of sites every day, helping create environments where people can work comfortably and visitors feel confident in the spaces they enter.

Facilities cleaning is about more than appearance. It supports wellbeing, protects assets, and helps maintain professional standards across every building and outdoor space. Our colleagues take pride in the work they do, understanding that consistency and attention to detail make a visible difference to clients, employees, and communities.

Supporting workplaces from the inside out

Our internal cleaning teams are responsible for maintaining high standards across a wide range of environments, often working across multiple floors and buildings to ensure every space remains clean, hygienic, and ready for use.

At sites such as ARC Uxbridge, our cleaners work together as a close-knit team, covering several buildings and delivering daily cleaning across key shared spaces. Their responsibilities include maintaining lifts, corridors, stairwells, reception areas, and washroom facilities, ensuring these high-traffic areas remain presentable and safe throughout the day.

Currently operating as a team of three, with two day cleaners and one night cleaner, their work is carefully coordinated to maintain consistent standards across each shift. Day teams focus on maintaining cleanliness during working hours, while evening cleaning ensures spaces are refreshed and ready for the following morning.

"The team at Uxbridge have been doing an amazing job. Their dedication and attention to detail have not gone unnoticed, and we’ve received excellent feedback from the client. They really make a difference to the day-to-day experience of everyone on site." - Carl Bean, Assistant Operations Manager

Keeping buildings looking their best

Alongside internal cleaning, specialist window cleaning teams play a key role in maintaining the external presentation of buildings. Clean windows improve natural light, enhance the overall appearance of a site, and contribute to a positive first impression for visitors and tenants.

Regular external cleaning helps protect building materials from dirt and environmental build-up, supporting long-term maintenance while ensuring properties remain professional and welcoming. Whether working at ground level or across multi-storey buildings, these teams deliver safe and efficient cleaning that complements internal maintenance standards.

Maintaining clean and welcoming outdoor spaces

External cleaning teams are equally important in shaping how a site is experienced from the moment people arrive. Litter picking operatives carry out routine checks to ensure outdoor areas remain tidy, safe, and presentable throughout the day.

By keeping on top of day-to-day cleanliness, these teams help prevent build-up, reduce hazards, and create a positive environment for employees, visitors, and the wider community. Their work supports a welcoming atmosphere across business parks, commercial properties, and shared public spaces.

"Our grounds cleaning teams work tirelessly to keep sites looking their best. Their proactive approach and attention to detail ensure every outdoor space is safe, clean, and welcoming, which reflects directly on how clients and visitors experience their sites." - John House, Head of Landscaping.

Consistent litter management also contributes to environmental responsibility, helping maintain greener spaces and encouraging responsible behaviour across the sites we manage.

Responding quickly to fly tipping and antisocial behaviour

Some sites face ongoing challenges with fly tipping and waste left behind through antisocial behaviour. These incidents can quickly create negative impressions, impact safety, and affect how people feel about the spaces they use. If not addressed promptly, small issues can escalate into larger concerns for both clients and visitors.

Responding to challenges such as fly tipping and antisocial behaviour often requires dedication, quick thinking, and a strong sense of responsibility. In recent months, two colleagues have gone above and beyond to ensure their sites remained clean, safe, and welcoming despite repeated issues.

Carl Donoghue and Francis Nayuguhora demonstrated exceptional commitment by taking proactive action, maintaining high standards, and ensuring problems were resolved quickly to protect the reputation of their sites. Their efforts reflect both the reliability our teams demonstrate in their work and the importance of staying vigilant when challenges arise. Both colleagues were recognised for their outstanding contribution with a GEM Award, celebrating their professionalism and determination to keep sites operating at their best.

By staying consistent, visible, and responsive, IPM helps prevent recurring problems and reinforce positive standards across the spaces we manage.

A team effort that makes a visible difference

Facilities cleaning relies on teamwork, coordination, and pride in the details. From internal cleaners maintaining busy shared spaces, to window cleaners preserving building presentation, to litter pickers supporting tidy outdoor environments, every role contributes to the overall experience of a site.

Together, these teams help create workplaces that are clean, safe, and ready for the day ahead. Their work may often happen quietly in the background, but its impact is seen and felt by everyone who uses the spaces they care for.
